Why Dental Health Matters for Pets

Dental disease is one of the most common—and most often overlooked—health issues in dogs and cats. Over time, plaque and tartar can lead to bad breath (halitosis), red gums (gingivitis), loose teeth, painful infections (periodontal disease), and if not addressed; dental disease can lead to weight loss, changes in behavior and overall happiness of your pet, and eventually can even cause problems with the heart, liver, or kidneys.

If your pet has bad breath, stained teeth, or seems reluctant to chew, they may already be showing signs of dental disease. The good news? A professional dental cleaning can reverse early problems and prevent serious ones before they start.

Dental Cleanings for Dogs and Cats in Marion, MA

If you think your pet may need a dental cleaning—or you’ve noticed signs like bad breath or gum changes—the first step is to schedule a dental exam. (This can also be done during a wellness visit.) If your pet is reluctant to let you look at a painful area in their mouth, we can help with pain medication that will allow us to do a full exam.

During the exam, one of our caring veterinarians will assess your pet’s oral health and determine what care is needed. If a dental cleaning or more advanced dental procedure is recommended, we’ll provide a detailed estimate and help you book your pet’s appointment. If your pet has advanced dental disease and may need to have their treatments staged, we will explain the process and the benefits of more than one procedure.
